Mindfulness Meditation: What Is It And How Can You Start Doing It

Mindfulness meditation is a type of meditation in which you focus on being intensely aware of what you are sensing and feeling at the moment. You practice this type of meditation without any interpretation or judgment. The practice involves breathing methods to relax the body and the mind. It also, in turn, reduces stress.

In the video, you will find meditation teacher Leah Santa Cruz. She says that you can do mindfulness meditation even if you are at home. Basically, you pay attention to what is happening in the present with intention.

One way to do mindfulness meditation is to identify what type of thoughts you have. You are not trying to stop your mind, you are only giving your mind something to do.
Leah Santa Cruz added that your mind is already having so many thoughts so you might as well pay attention to the quality of those thoughts.

How To Do Mindfulness Meditation

Know that we have three types of thoughts: past thoughts, present thoughts, and future thoughts. Amongst these, we can have a neutral thought, a pleasant thought, and an unpleasant thought.

When doing mindfulness meditation, start focusing on the quality of your thoughts. Are you worrying about something, are you regretting something, are you judging yourself?

Or are you reminiscing about a great memory or fantasizing about what the future holds for you? Either way, do not change how you feel about these thoughts. Do not try to control your mind, just let it happen naturally.

Start by finding a quiet space in your home, breathe, close your eyes, take a deep breath, and relax. Stay focused on the breathing. Your thoughts will try to pull you away from your breath, but always get back to focusing on the breathing.

Do this for 10 minutes every day and you will find that being mindful of your thoughts can create a space where you will eventually find peace with them.
