Dolphin Pose, also known as Ardha Pincha Mayurasana, is an inverted pose that helps to strengthen the arms and shoulders. Here’s how to perform this pose:
- Begin on your hands and knees, with your wrists aligned under your shoulders and your knees under your hips.
- Lower your forearms to the ground, keeping your elbows shoulder-width apart.
- Walk your feet back until your hips are aligned with your shoulders, keeping your legs straight.
- Lift your hips towards the ceiling, bringing your heels towards the ground.
- Hold the pose for a few deep breaths, then release and return to a tabletop position.
If you’re unable to straighten your legs, you can keep your knees bent for support. Remember to listen to your body and only go as far as you feel comfortable. With practice, you may be able to straighten your legs and hold the pose for longer periods of time.
The Dolphin Pose is a great way to start your yoga journey! Not only will it help strengthen and open up the shoulders, chest, and thighs; but its therapeutic benefits can also offer relief from sciatica pain as well as flat feet.
Practicing this pose could improve circulation which would in turn increase blood flow to the brain, alleviate menstrual discomfort while powering up your immune system at the same time! Be mindful though: if you have an injury or high blood pressure then best avoid it; moreover pregnant women should refrain trying out this particular posture too.
